by Administrative and support staff at Cape Breton University have voted in favour of a strike.
Staff are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees that says the strike vote got 93.5% support after all members cast a ballot.
CUPE says Local 3131 is looking for the same treatment as other employees at CBU, as well as the same benefits and incentives, such as vacation leave, sick time, overtime meal allowances and stand by pay.
They’re also asking for what they’re calling a living wage for all members.
CUPE says it did a survey that shows nearly half of the local’s membership struggles to pay their monthly bills and they have to hold off on necessary spending in order to make ends meet.
