CBRM To Phase Out Compost Facility

Public Works Director John Phalen made a couple of major announcements at today’s Regional Council meeting.

Phalen says the municipality wants to phase out the compost facility on the SPAR Road and council has voted to accept the proposal.

Phalen says no jobs will be lost and the compost will be sent to Guysborough County.

Meanwhile, Phalen also announced today a company is interested in buying and operating the recycling facility in Sydport– a proposal council also voted to support.

Phalen says the municipality will get about $890,000 for the facility, save over $1 million in losses per year and bring in about $42,000 a year in taxes.
