CBRM Public Meetings on Charter

The Regional Municipality says they will be holding public meetings on a potential Municipality Charter in January.

They’re scheduled for January 15th at 6:00 at the Council Chambers and January 20th at 1:30 at Centre 200.

Meanwhile Municipal Affairs Minister and Sydney Whitney Pier MLA Derek Moumbourquette says he began discussing a potential Charter in July.

Mombourquette adds he won’t put a timeline on whether the province will table legislation in the spring.

The Regional Municpality says they’ve been getting some feedback at budget consultation meetings that have been taking place throughout the Municipality since Sunday.

The Charter will give the municipality broader powers on financial decisions than provided under the municipal government act.
