CBRM Outside Workers Vote In Favour Of Strike

Outside workers with the CBRM have voted in favour of going on strike.

Members of Local 759 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees have vote 96% in favour of possible job action.

CUPE says the main outstanding issues are wage increases, improvements to leave benefits and improved protections that would prevent the employer from undermining seniority.

CUPE Local 759 represents more than 300 CBRM employees who work in the departments of solid waste, water & wastewater treatment, parks and grounds, transit as well as cleaners, mechanics, heavy equipment operators, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and horticulturalists.

They’ve been without a contract since November.
