CBRM Leaves Regional Enterprise Network

The CBRM has left the Regional Enterprise Network designed to co-ordinate economic development for most of Cape Breton.

The move leaves Victoria, Richmond and Inverness counties in the Island’s REN.

Regional Council voted to leave the Enterprise Network during a special council meeting, last week.

Mayor Cecil Clarke says he recommended the move and adds the structure of the REN wasn’t working for the municipality.

He goes on to say having Business Cape Breton and the Cape Breton Partnership working as two separate service providers for the network would have cost too much.

However, Clarke says the four municipalities will continue to work together.

Long-time councillor Ray Paruch was the only councillor to vote against Clarke’s recommendation to leave the Regional Enterprise Network.

Paruch says he had no background information on the move and adds the process lacks transparency.
