CBRM Launches GetOuttaYerCar Campaign

The Regional Municipality is asking people to consider giving their car a break this week.

The weeklong campaign was launched yesterday at the civic centre in Sydney, in conjunction with Velo Cape Breton’s launch of “Getting Around CBRM: A Cyclist’s Handbook.”

Velo Cape Breton President Collette Smith says they’re asking people to use other forms of transportation for getting to work and getting their groceries and shopping such as the bus, walking, rollerblading and biking.

Senior municipal planner Rick McCready says this is the first year for the campaign and adds the goal is to promote all forms of sustainable transportation through social marketing.

The campaign has the twitter handle GetOuttaYerCar and McCready goes on to say people out walking, biking or taking the bus this week are encouraged to post pictures and stories with the hashtag.
