CBRM Calls Local 759 Work Stoppage Illegal

The Regional Municipality calls today’s work stoppage by the union for outside works illegal.

It says the current collective agreement between CUPE Local 759 and the CBRM has a grievance process and that process has not been followed.

It says senior management is ready to meet with union leadership when they end the work stoppage.

Meanwhile, Transit Cape Breton and Handi-Trans buses aren’t operating because of the stoppage.

Garbage collection has also been stopped because disposal sites aren’t open and people are being asked to remove their garbage bags, green bins and blue bags from the side of the road until the next collection day.
