The Cape Breton Regional Library says its Bookmobile will be making its last run on November 28th and the library will transition to a Borrow by Mail program.
The library says there were a number of factors behind the decision, including accessibility limitations and rising vehicle maintenance needs, as well as other challenges like bad weather and poor road conditions that have made the service unreliable.
The library goes on to say the new borrow by mail program is free and is available to people in rural areas of the CBRM and Victoria County who live more than 15 kilometres from a branch, and people who can’t travel to their local branch because of a disability or long-term illness.
