CB West Islanders Win Telus Cup and Make History

The Cape Breton West Islanders have made history with their gold medal victory at the national major midget hockey championship in Prince George, B.C.

Cape Breton downed Quebec 5-4 in overtime to become the first team from the Atlantic region to win the tournament.

The only other Cape Breton team to medal at the championship was the Cape Breton Colonels who took home bronze in1982.

The West Islanders ended the first period of last night’s game down 4-2 before rallying for a tie and forcing overtime.

Islanders Captain Jacob Hudson was named tournament MVP.
