CB Unemployment Rate Rises To 11.3 Percent In September

Statistics Canada says the national unemployment rate was unchanged in September and stood at 5.5% for the third consecutive month.

The federal agency says 64-thousand jobs were created last month.

However, it says the upward trend in employment continues to occur in the context of the highest rate of population growth since 1957.

Cape Breton’s jobless rate in September was 11.3 percent.

That’s up from 10.9 percent in August and 9.5 percent in September of last year.

Nova Scotia’s unemployment rate in September was 7.2 percent.
