CB Unemployment Rate Just Below 13% In June

Statistics Canada’s latest job numbers show Cape Breton’s unemployment rate was 12.9% last month.

That’s down from 15.3% in May and 14.2% in June of last year.

Meanwhile, the agency says the country lost 43,000 jobs last month.

However, the national unemployment rate hit a new record low of 4.9% in June because fewer people were looking for work.

The new job numbers come as the Bank of Canada is expected to raise its key interest rate next week for the fourth time this year.
