CB Unemployment Rate Hits 16.2 Percent In December

The latest numbers from Stats Canada show Cape Breton’s unemployment rate stood at 16.2 per cent, last month.

That’s an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to November and a jump of 2.5 percent points from December of last year.

Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate held steady at 5.6%, last month.

The federal agency says employment increased by 163,000 in the 12 months to December.

It says that was entirely driven by gains in full-time work.
