CB Unemployment Rate Hits 15.3% In May

Stats Canada says Cape Breton’s unemployment rate was 15.3 percent in May.

That’s a half a percentage point increase from April but a drop of two-tenths of a percentage point compared to May of last year.

Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a percentage point in May to 5.1 percent.

The federal agency says 40-thousand jobs were created last month.

Nova Scotia’s unemployment rate for May was 6.6 percent.
