CB Unemployment Rate Down, Slightly

The latest numbers from Stats Canada show Cape Breton’s unemployment rate dropped slightly, last month.

The jobless rate of 15.8 percent is a tenth of a percentage point lower compared to March.

And, it’s 2.4 percentage points lower compared to April of last year.

Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate dropped to tenths of a percentage point last month to 6.5 percent.

Stats Canada says that’s the lowest rate since October of 2008.

It adds the drop was mostly the result of fewer young people looking for work.
