Statistics Canada says the national unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.5 percent in August.
The federal agency says the national economy created 40,000 jobs last month but it says that was offset by population growth of 103,000 and the proportion of the population 15 and older who are employed.
Meanwhile, Cape Breton’s unemployment rate was 10.9 percent in August.
That’s up from 8.9 percent in July and 9.1 percent in August of last year.
Nova Scotia’s unemployment rate in August was 7.1 percent.
