CB Man Still In Custody In Thailand

A River Ryan man is still awaiting a decision on whether he’ll be extradited to Singapore to face charges stemming from a bank robbery in that country.

On July 10th, 27 year-old David James Roach was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, where he’s now residing in an immigration detention centre.

Singapore’s Straits Times newspaper quotes a Thai police official saying a decision on extradition was delayed until after today because of a public holiday in Thailand.

Roach is accused of robbing a Standard Chartered Bank branch in Singapore on July 7th.

According to police, he handed the teller a note saying he was armed, after which he’s said to have left with about 30,000 dollars.

Such accusations are rare in Singapore, which has a low crime rate and hasn’t seen a successful bank robbery in over a decade.

A Thai criminal lawyer says Roach could face up to ten years in prison if convicted.
