CB Jobless Rate Down

Stats Canada says Cape Breton’s unemployment rate was 8.9% last month.

That’s down from 10.3% in June and down from 9.6% in July of last year.

Nationally, the jobless rate ticked up by a tenth of a percentage point to 5.5% in July, marking the third straight monthly increase.

It was the first time the jobless rate went up three months in a row since the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
