The judge in the trial of a Sydney man accused of trying to arrange the murder of his ex-wife has ordered the defence to continue its case today, despite a request to adjourn until Monday.
53 year-old Roderick Joseph Domoslai faces two counts of counsel to commit murder, one count of counsel to commit arson and one count each of obstruction and perjury.
Defence lawyer Ray Kuszelewski asked for the adjournment because he says he’s had difficulty contacting two defence witnesses.
He also says his rheumatoid arthritis has caused his knees to swell.
However, Justice Gregory Warner says there have been enough delays in the case already.
The trial has already heard from key Crown witness Erin Maxwell who testified he got $20,000 from Domoslai as a down payment for the job to murder Dawn MacNeil.
Yesterday, the defence began presenting its case with Domoslai’s ex-girlfriend and her mother who say he’s a good person and father.
Regional Police are asking drivers to use extra caution as students in the Cape Breton Victoria-Regional School Board return to school, today.
Police are also reminding people to pay special attention to school zone speed limits.
In areas where the speed limit is 50 km/hr, the speed limit in school zones goes down to 30 when children are within 30 metres of the road.
In areas where the speed limit is more than 50 km/hr, drivers have to slow down to 50 in school zones.
Speed fines double in school zones, starting at $352.50 for a first offence.
Police say drivers should also pay attention around crosswalks and follow the directions of school crossing guards.
They add vehicles coming in both directions must stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing.
