Port Hawkesbury Against Bill 85
Another municipality is raising concerns about amendments meant to help the Cape Breton Regional Municipality with port development.
Port Hawkesbury Town Council is sending a letter to the province outlining its opposition to Bill 85.
The bill allows the Regional Municipality to sell or lease land for a proposed shipping container terminal for less than market value.
It also allows the municipality to offer tax concessions to businesses.
The Town of Antigonish and Guysborough County spoke out against Bill 85 last month during hearings at the Legislature.
The Strait Area Chamber of Commerce and the Eastern Strait Regional Enterprise Network also spoke against the bill.
They all say it gives the Regional Municipality an unfair advantage.
