Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have been selected to host the next IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
Halifax and Moncton will serve as the host cities for the tournament.
Games will be played from December 26 of this year to January 5 of next year at the Scotiabank Centre and Avenir Centre.
The tournament was originally supposed to be held in Russia but that country’s hosting rights were taken away because of its invasion of Ukraine.
The province is reporting 22 more COVID-19 deaths over the seven-day period that ended on Monday.
77 people were hospitalized because of the virus over the same period.
The new figures come after a record 24 deaths were reported over the previous seven-day period.
Health officials say this week’s data show a continued decrease in lab-confirmed cases in the province since the peak of the sixth wave early last month.
They say the data points to what’s being called a “stabilization” in new long-term care cases and severe outcomes, though they note the number of hospitalizations and deaths remains high compared to earlier waves.
The province is dropping its controversial non-resident property tax.
Changes to the measure were announced earlier this week after many critics said it would turn people away from the province.
Premier Tim Houston announced early this afternoon the tax is being removed completely.
Houston told reporters he made the decision because he didn’t want the province to have a reputation of being unwelcoming.
He also says he’s still committed to finding ways to make homes more affordable for first-time buyers.
Premier Tim Houston will lead a trade mission to Ireland, the United Kingdom and France starting tomorrow.
The Nova Scotia delegation will host business receptions in Dublin, Edinburgh and Paris.
It will also host a roundtable on ocean technology in London, meet with tourism operators in Scotland and Michelin representatives in Paris.
Houston has meetings scheduled with Nancy Smyth the Ambassador of Canada to Ireland, Ralph Goodale, the High Commissioner for Canada in the United Kingdom, and Chargée d’Affaires Amy Baker in Paris.
He’s scheduled to be in Europe until May 18th.
