SIRT Clears Regional Police After Injury During July Arrest
The province’s Serious Incident Response Team or SIRT has cleared Cape Breton Regional Police of any wrong-doing after police say a man broke his ankle while running from officers in July. Police add the 27 year-old was a suspect in a home invasion the day before and when officers spotted him in Sydney they tried to arrest him. However, they say he ran and broke his ankle when he jumped a fence. The man claimed he was beaten by police but SiRT investigators say they saw no evidence of that when they met with him. The SIRT says there are no grounds to lay charges against the officers involved.
