Casey Forecasts Slightly Bigger Surplus in 2019-20 Budget

Provincial Finance Minister Karen Casey is forecasting a slightly bigger surplus in today’s second 2019-20 budget update.

Casey says the projected surplus is now $36.9 million.

That’s up by $3.2 million from budget day in April.

Total revenue is projected to be up $245.3 million from the spring budget.

The government says that’s mainly because of the one-time federal contribution to the Boat Harbour cleanup, a one-time federal payment to municipalities from the gas tax and increased revenue from provincial taxes.

However, overall expenses are projected to be up $247.5 million.
