Cape Breton Unemployment Rate Hits Nearly 14% In December

Stats Canada says Cape Breton’s unemployment rate was 13.9 percent in December.

That compares with a jobless rate of 12.4 percent in November and 12.7 percent in December of last year.

Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate fell by a tenth of a percentage point in December to 5.9 percent.

The federal agency says the country added 55-thousand jobs last month.

The provincial unemployment rate for December was 7.7 percent.
