Cape Breton Red Cross Volunteers In Alberta

Three Cape Bretoners have travelled to Alberta to join the Red Cross relief effort for Fort McMurray.

Amy Campbell-Landry, Gerald Hazelhurst and Stephen Read are the first Red Cross volunteers from the Island to head out West to take part in the effort.

Read and Campbell-Landry will be going to Fort McMurray while Hazelhurst is being dispatched to Edmonton where he expects he’ll be working in the displaced persons centre.

All three are long-time volunteers with the Red Cross.

Meanwhile, people evacuated from Fort McMurray because of the wildfires are due to be able to go back on a voluntary basis, starting on Wednesday.

The phased re-entry is expected to be completed by June 15th.
