Liberal Leader Iain Rankin released his party’s environment platform this morning at Long Lake Provincial Park in Halifax.
The Liberals are promising to reduce Nova Scotia’s greenhouse gas emissions to 53 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030 and to reach net-zero by 2050.
They’re also pledging to get the province off coal by 2030 and having it get 80 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by the same point.
Meanwhile, NDP Leader Gary Burrill says his party would build a thousand new affordable housing units in four years.
Burrill made the announcement in Halifax’s Fairview area this morning.
The party estimates its affordable housing proposal would cost about $39.6 million a year.
Elsewhere, Progressive-Conservative Leader Tim Houston said this morning he’ll set up a Rink Sustainability Fund if he becomes Premier.
The fund will be used to help with repairs and maintenance of aging facilities.
Houston also says the PC’s will bring in the Kids Activity Tax Credit.
The Tax Credit will allow parents to claim $500 for each child a year for enrolling their children in sports and arts activities.
