Burke Memorial Run Raises $1,700 For New Library

$1,700 was raised for a new Sydney library at the third annual Myles Burke Memorial Run, yesterday.

The former Cape Breton Regional Police Chief died suddenly in April of 2011 at the age of 49.

Burke’s daughter’s Nicole and Janine were instrumental in organizing the run that took participants from the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion through north-end Sydney.

About135 people turned out for the event and participants had the option of doing a five-kilometre run or a one-kilometre walk.

The Regional Library’s Rosalie Gillis says the donation comes at a great time for the organization as it works toward building a new Sydney Library.

Gillis adds the late Myles Burke understood the important role libraries play in the community and always made himself available to read at special children’s programs at the library.
