The Province is recommending a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine for young people between the ages of 12 and 17 at higher risk of severe illness.
It says that includes people who have an underlying medical condition or who live in group settings such as shelters, group homes and correctional facilities.
A booster dose is also recommended for people in that age group who belong to racialized or marginalized communities disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
The province says families with children 12 to 17 who do not fall into those groups are also eligible for a booster with informed consent.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health says the National Advisory Committee on Immunization is recommending third doses of COVID-19 for children between 5 and 11 who are moderately to severely immunocompromised at the time of their first or second dose.
The Committee says people who test positive for COVID and have not been fully vaccinated should wait at least two months to get a first or second dose.
People who’ve tested positive and have been fully vaccinated are advised to wait at least three months to get a booster dose.
