Boil Water Order Lifted In Baddeck

A boil water order has been lifted in Baddeck. The order was put in place on Wednesday after a water sample showed elevated levels of total coliform and E. coli. The provincial Environment Department said today that the problem has been addressed and Baddeck’s water is now safe to drink. Wednesday’s boil water order was issued just after an earlier order was lifted in Baddeck last week, and Environment Minister Andrew Younger says that the village has to do more to ensure the safety of its water. There’s only one certified technician at the community’s water treatment plant and that person is currently on vacation. Younger says that Baddeck has to make sure that there’s a certified operator in place at all times, and the Environment Department is also asking the village to increase the frequency of its testing.
