Bedford Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Northern CB Crashes

A 21-year-old Bedford man is due in Sydney court today after being charged with attempted murder following four vehicle crashes in northern Cape Breton on the weekend.

Ingonish RCMP say they got calls about four separate collisions within a four kilometre stretch of White Point Road at around 3:00 on Saturday afternoon.

Police add a Honda van intentionally struck three different vehicles and narrowly missed a fourth before hitting a guardrail.

The struck vehicles include an SUV driven by a 49-year-old woman with a five-year-old passenger and two motorcycles, each with a driver and a passenger.

Police say the people in the SUV and on the motorcycles all suffered various injures but add none are life-threatening.

They go on to say the Honda van dragged one of the rider-less motorcycles for about a kilometer before driving through an intersection, narrowly missing a fourth vehicle and crashing into a guardrail.

Police add the van driver assaulted two bystanders after the crash along with police officers while he was in custody.

Daniel Keays is also facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, assault causing bodily harm, assault of a peace officer and refusal of a Drug Recognition Expert Demand.
