Barrett’s Prelim on Murder Charges Expected To Go Ahead

Senior Crown prosecutor Kathryn Pentz says it appears doubtful that the robbery preliminary hearing for Thomas Ted Barrett will go ahead on July 14th.

Sources say the 39-year-old Glace Bay man was the victim of a stabbing at the Burnside Jail in Dartmouth on the weekend and continues to be in intensive care in hospital.

However, Pentz adds Barrett’s preliminary hearing on two counts of second-degree murder is still expected to go as scheduled in November.

Barrett is charged is relation to the deaths of Laura Jessome from Bras d’Or and Brett Elizabeth McKinnon from Glace Bay.

The robbery charges against Barrett relate to bank and jewelry store thefts that occurred in Sydney in May of 2012
