Barrett’s First Murder Trial Due To Start, Today

The trial for the Glace Bay man charged with murdering Brett Elizabeth McKinnon is due to start today.

40-year Thomas Ted Barrett faces a count of second degree murder in McKinnon’s death.

The Glace Bay woman was reported missing in 2006 and her remains were later found in woods in the Passchendaele area of Glace Bay in 2008.

The media will be able to fully report details from the trial after Barrett’s lawyer unsuccessfully applied for a publication ban, earlier this month.

Barrett and another Glace Bay man are charged with second degree murder in the 2012 death of Laura Jessome from Bras d’Or.

The trial in that case is set to begin in September.
