Police have tracked down the witness that put the second degree murder trial of Thomas Ted Barrett on hold, this week.
The 40 year-old Glace Bay man is charged in the death of Brett Elizabeth McKinnon from Glace Bay.
Ashley MacDonald is Barrett’s former girlfriend and the mother of his two children.
A witness warrant was issued for her last week and Regional Police travelled to British Columbia in the bid to find her.
The trial is now set to resume on Monday where the first order of business is expected to be a closed-door session with Crown and defence lawyers.
It’s believed the issue to be discussed will be whether police informant privilege ends with the death of an informant.
Defence lawyer Brian Bailey has raised the question of whether witness Sheryl Flynn was a police informant.
The Sydney Mines woman has since died from a drug overdose but in her videotaped statement she says Barrett confessed to her that he killed McKinnon.
So far, there has been no testimony at the trial to indicate that Flynn was an informant.
