Barrett Back in Court, Today

A Glace Bay man who’s charged with attempted murder, unlawful confinement, assault and uttering a threat is due back in court today to set a trial date.

38 year-old Thomas Ted Barrett is also facing two counts of second-degree murder in two unrelated cases—the deaths of 21 year-old Laura Jessome from Bras d’Or, and 21 year-old Brett MacKinnon from Glace Bay.

A trial date was set to be scheduled on the attempted murder charge earlier this month, but that was postponed because Barrett didn’t have a lawyer at the time.

However, during a court appearance on Friday, it was revealed that he now has legal counsel.

He’s being represented by Brian F. Bailey with the Dartmouth-based law firm Bailey & Associates.
