Bank of Canada Reduces Its Key Interest Rate

The Bank of Canada has reduced its key interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point.

That’s the first reduction in the rate in more than four years.

The rate is now four and three-quarters percent.

The central bank says monetary policy no longer needs to be as restrictive and that’s why it made the cut.

It says recent data has increased its confidence inflation will continue to move towards its 2% target.
