Bail Hearing for Man Charged in Glace Bay Standoff

A Donkin man arrested after an hour-long standoff with police in Glace Bay earlier this week is due back in court today for a bail hearing.

29 year-old Kevin Richard Walton faces counts of Assaulting a police officer, Resisting Arrest, and Flight from Police, as well as Failure to Attend Court and a Breach.

The charges stem from an incident Regional Police say began at around 12:30 on Tuesday afternoon, when officers on foot patrol on Brookside Street recognized a man with an outstanding warrant.

They add, when the officers tried to arrest the man, he ran into a nearby home he’s familiar with and refused to come out.

Police say the emergency response team was called in when the man said he had a gun.

He was arrested after he surrendered at around 1:30.

Police say there was no weapon involved in the incident.
