August CB Unemployment Rate 15.9 Percent

Stats Canada says Cape Breton’s unemployment rate was 15.9 per cent in
August.

That’s a drop of nine-tenths of a percentage point from July.

But it’s an increase of 2.8 percentage points compared to August of last year.

Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate was 10.2 per cent last month.

That’s a drop of seven-tenths of a percentage point from July.

The country gained 246,000 jobs in August as the economy continued to open up from a COVID-19 shutdown.
