Auditor General Says Province Needs A Strategy To Address Violence In Schools

Auditor General Kim Adair says the Department of Education needs a provincewide strategy to address violence in schools.

In a report released this morning, Adair says reported incidents of violence in schools have increased 60% over the past seven years, up from 17,000 to 26,000 since 2017.

Adair says current policies have significant weaknesses to address the increasing school violence.

She says the situation now requires a more focused effort that’s not evident in the current Code of Conduct policy.

Her report makes five recommendations, including the adoption of an integrated provincewide strategy in consultation with educators to address violence in schools.
