Auditor General Critical Of Fire Marshall In New Report

The provincial Auditor General says the Office of the Fire Marshal is not doing enough to make sure public buildings are adequately inspected for fire hazards.

Kim Adair says her office’s testing focused on buildings serving vulnerable people in an audit report released today.

She says the audit found forty per cent of the inspections were completed late.

It also finds the Office of the Fire Marshal is not following inspection policy and doesn’t have a complete listing of buildings requiring inspections.

Adair says the audit includes seven recommendations that have all been accepted with a plan already put in place to act on them.
