Another Attempt At Keays Bail Hearing

Provincial court officials are expected to try again today to hold a bail hearing for a Bedford man accused of deliberately ramming a mini-van into an SUV and two motorcycles in northern Cape Breton.

A judge, a prosecutor and a duty counsel lawyer tried to hold the hearing for 21 year-old Daniel Fraser Keays in his room in the Regional Hospital mental health unit, yesterday.

But Keays was too sedated to understand the court proceeding to have him sent to the East Coast Forensic Hospital in Dartmouth for a psychiatric assessment.

Keays is facing 19 criminal charges after a series of events in South Harbour over the weekend.

Besides five charges of attempted murder charge, Keays also faces counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, assault causing bodily harm and assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm.
