Air Canada Extends Flight Suspension

Air Canada’s suspension of its Sydney to Halifax flight has now been extended to January 10th.

The flight had already been suspended for most of this month because of a lack of demand for air travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sydney-McCurdy Airport CEO Mike MacKinnon says Air Service from Sydney is hanging by a thread and he’s calling on Federal Transport Minister Marc Garneau and the airlines to do more to avoid further cuts to air service.

MacKinnon is also continuing to call on the province to allow rapid COVID-19 testing at airports.

He says a rapid testing pilot program should be considered as a possible way to reduce quarantine measures and still keep the public safe.
