by Air Canada has cut a longstanding flight from the Sydney-McCurdy Airport to Halifax.
The carrier says the interprovincial flight is being cut between November 2nd and November 30th.
The airport says the airline is only letting airports know of flight schedules a week in advance for the coming month because of decreasing demand for air travel.
Airport CEO Mike MacKinnon says the route has been in place since 1942 and entire sectors of the island’s economy depend on it.
Regional Chamber of Commerce CEO Kathleen Yurchesyn says she hopes Premier Stephen McNeil and other premiers in Atlantic Canada will consider the idea of ‘rapid testing’ to welcome passengers safely from outside the Atlantic Bubble in Sydney.
She sent a letter to the Premier today on behalf of the chamber.
Air Canada’s announcement comes after Westjet announced earlier this month it’s reducing or cutting flights across the Atlantic Region, including in Sydney.
