Police Investigating Attempted Copper Wire Theft

Regional Police say businesses faced service interruptions after an attempted theft of copper wire from the Bell Aliant property on Kings Road in Sydney River.

They say yesterday morning Bell employees found a conduit with several copper lines had been cut through.

No wire was taken at the time.

Police say costly repairs are needed to fix the affected equipment.

They also say copper wire can carry tens of thousands of volts of electricity and cutting and stealing it poses a major risk to personal and public safety.

Anyone with information about the attempted theft, or other mischief related to copper wire, is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.

The report of the attempted theft comes after RCMP reported copper wire thefts in Cumberland and Hants counties on the mainland last week.
