RCMP Say Road Safety Week Saw Plenty of Offences

RCMP say nearly one in ten drivers they stopped during Road Safety Week were charged with an offence.

They say, between May 12th and 19th, officers did over 2,200 hours of enforcement, checked over 6,400 vehicles, and set up 99 checkpoints across the province.

They say the campaign resulted in 29 Criminal Code charges related to impaired driving and 12 roadside suspensions for alcohol and drug impairment.

Over 600 summary offence tickets were issued, including 538 for aggressive driving, 42 for distracted driving and 26 for not wearing a seatbelt.
