SIRT Sends Officer’s Case To Restorative Justice

The province’s police watchdog says a Cape Breton Regional Police officer unlawfully took personal property while searching a home and the case has been referred to restorative justice.

The Serious Incident Response Team says officers had a warrant when they searched a home on September 30th.

It says video footage shows one of the officers taking a small sign of minimal value from the home and the sign wasn’t documented as an item seized.

The SIRT goes on to say the sign was eventually found in the officer’s office.

It says the officer cooperated with the investigation, admitted to taking the sign, and accepted responsibility for his actions.
