The Nova Scotia Energy Board has invoked its interrupter clause to change the price of diesel overnight.
It says the price of gas will not be affected.
The regulator says the change for diesel is necessary because of significant changes in the market price for the fuel.
A litre of diesel now sells for a minimum of $1.81.6 in Cape Breton.
Gas is selling for a minimum of $1.47.1 per litre on the island.
