NSP CEO Commits To Addressing Overbilling

Nova Scotia Power CEO Peter Gregg says the utility will reimburse customers who’ve been overbilled because of problems related to a recent cyber attack.

Gregg made the comments before a meeting of the Legislature’s Natural Resources Committee this afternoon.

Gregg told the committee the cyber attack affected communication between smart meters and the utility’s billing system and about 25% of bills have had to be estimated.

He says they hope to fix the problem with the billing system by the end of March.

Gregg also told the committee this afternoon the recent security breach is thought to have come from an unidentified group in Russia.

Following Gregg’s appearance, government members on the committee voted down an opposition motion to have an emergency meeting on power bills next month and to have the Deputy Minister of Energy appear as a witness.
