It’s interested in two buildings, but no agreement has been signed yet.
Mayor Cecil Clarke says Centre 200 needs an upgrade, and the community needs a flagship facility to draw people in.
Clarke says the aim of acquiring the nearby properties is also part of a plan to set up a hub for buses, and possibly a light rail service.
