Ottawa announced the fare reduction and rate freeze earlier this week.
Fares on the ferries to PEI are also down by 50 percent, starting today and tolls on the Confederation Bridge are down from just over $50 to $20.
The fare and toll reductions were promised by Prime Minister Mark Carney during the federal election.
