The Provincial Department of Natural Resources has declared a Sydney fire officially extinguished.
Several fire departments were called to the Grand Lake – Kytes Hill area last Saturday.
Power was disconnected for thousands of customers during the wildfire that eventually scorched about 2 hectares of land.
DNR says the fire was deemed extinguished after several days of mopping up and thoroughly disabling any potential for a flare up.
Manager of Forest Protection Scott Tingley says the hot, dry weather is dangerous and deceiving, so it’s crucial to keep an eye on the forecast.
Tingley reminds people there’s a $25,000 fine for disobeying burn restrictions.
The latest status indicates burning is permitted in Cape Breton from 7:00 this evening to 8:00 tomorrow morning.
