Fire Chief Says Some Fire Trucks Out Of Date

Regional Fire Chief Mark Bettens says over 20 trucks being used by firefighters are out of date.

In a submission to the Fire and Emergency Services Committee, Bettens says as things now stand the estimated replacement costs are $19-20 million and insurance rates will go up if the municipality doesn’t make any purchases this year.

A number of councillors voiced frustration at the news, saying they weren’t aware of how serious the problem is.

Committee members voted to refer the matter to council for further review.
